How to Setup Cemu and Yuzu Motion Controls with BetterJoy (Gyro Guide)
Games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey rely heavily on gyro motion controls for bow aiming, shrine puzzles, and camera manipulation. BetterJoy features a built-in DSU/Cemuhook motion server that broadcasts accurate gyro data directly to emulators like Cemu and Yuzu. Here is how to configure it in minutes.
Why Motion Controls Require BetterJoy
Standard Windows XInput drivers only transmit thumbstick and button inputs—they discard six-axis accelerometer and gyroscope motion data. BetterJoy captures the raw IMU sensor stream from your Switch Pro Controller or Joy-Con and serves it via an internal UDP network protocol (DSU protocol) on port 26760, making it instantly readable by modern emulators.
Step 1: Configure BetterJoy Motion Server
- Ensure your controllers are paired via Bluetooth or USB cable.
- Open BetterJoy as Administrator.
- Confirm that the arrow button on the right is expanded to reveal settings.
- Verify that IP is set to
127.0.0.1and Port is set to26760. - Keep BetterJoy running in the background.
Step 2: Setup Gyro in Cemu (Zelda BotW)
- Launch Cemu (version 1.26 or newer).
- Go to Options > Gamepad motion source.
- Select DSU1 (you should see
By slotor127.0.0.1:26760). - Go to Options > Input settings.
- Set Emulated Controller to Wii U GamePad.
- Set Controller to your BetterJoy virtual XInput device.
- Under GamePad Motion, confirm it connects to your DSU slot.
- Launch Breath of the Wild—your motion aiming and shrine apparatus puzzles will now respond smoothly!
Step 3: Setup Gyro in Yuzu / Ryujinx
- Open Yuzu and navigate to Emulation > Configure > Controls.
- In the Advanced tab, check Use Motion and set UDP Server to
127.0.0.1with Port26760. - In the Player 1 tab, select your emulated controller and click Motion to shake your Joy-Con or Pro Controller to calibrate.
Gyro Calibration Tip
If your crosshair drifts slowly in game, place your controller flat on a level table for 5 seconds. In BetterJoy, click Re-centre Gyro to calibrate the zero-point sensor axis.
